Band Bios

Cathy started playing live music in 1995 when she formed a band called Somebody's Mother based in the Stanwood/Camano Island area. Over the years, this morphed into a string band called Somebody's Mother and The Acoustic Detour playing string-based covers of favorite songs, and releasing a CD called Familiar Roads and New Horizons in 2006. The band eventually became electric as The Acoustic Detour. She later formed the band Pioneer Highway also in the Stanwood/Camano area. After relocating to Port Townsend in 2017, Cathy and her husband Paul quickly formed Key City Ramblers. Cathy really enjoys singing and has a great voice and a love of harmony, which has been the basis of all of the bands she has been in over the years. She also dabbles in flute and harmonica and really enjoys the creative magic that happens on stage when she sings with other like-minded players.Mike has been playing professionally for about 45 years, the last 22 right here on the Olympic Peninsula. You may have seen him in The Crocs, The Soulshakers Blues Band, or Kayohti. The Key City Ramblers is an exciting new episode in a long career.Paul first picked up the bass in 2004 thinking "how hard could it be with only 4 strings?" Within two weeks, he was on stage with Somebody's Mother, playing root notes and trying to keep time. Over the years playing with Somebody's Mother, Acoustic Detour, and Pioneer Highway, Paul learned through trial and error the fretboard and the important role of the bass in a band. Thankfully, he has a natural sense of time that got him through many gigs. It is in the Key City Ramblers that Paul finally feels he has a decent grasp on his instrument and he enjoys holding down his role in the band.
